Australia maintains a universal visa regime, meaning that every non-citizen in Australia must have a visa, either as a result of an application, or one granted automatically by law.
Visitors holding passports from certain countries may apply for a visa using a truncated process:
Information on different visa types and for which one might apply, as well as the waiting time for visa issuance can be found here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-finder
Participants who require a visa for Australia need to select the “Visa letter” option in the conference registration system. Please note that participants need to have an accepted paper for the conference and the conference fee settled in order to request invitation letter for visa purposes. In order to receive an Invitation Letter, please mark this option while settling the fee (in the FEE/REGISTRATION menu) or contact payment@sdewes.org.
In order to prepare for their visa application, the applicants should attach their travel itinerary (booking only, no need to confirm the ticket yet) as one of the supporting documents. All participants must meet health and character requirements to receive the visa.
In order to avoid any delay of the visa application, all applicants are advised to front-load all applications as detail as they can to submit a decision-ready application (i.e. evidence of incentive to return home, evidence of access to sufficient funds, etc).
